Inpatient Rehabilitation
Patients with impairments from a stroke, paralysis from a debilitating
neurological disease, or who are recovering from orthopedic reconstructive
surgery may regain the skills needed to live an independent life with
the help of the skilled therapists of Garden City Hospital’s 24-bed
inpatient rehabilitation unit. One of the first of its kind in the area,
the unit has provided rehabilitative care for more than 20 years.
With a focus on patient satisfaction, the unit’s dedicated and caring
staff has consistently been scored at 98 percent and above in patient
satisfaction surveys.
Complete with 18 private rooms, group activity and assisted living areas,
the inpatient rehabilitation unit provides closely monitored care and
customized rehabilitation plans, focusing on the unique needs and abilities
of each patient. Certified by the American Osteopathic Association, the
unit involves certified pain management and rehabilitation physicians
in care plans. Rehabilitation nurses staff the unit around the clock.
The team of rehabilitation experts also includes case managers, wound care
specialists, therapeutic recreation specialists, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, audiologists, speech pathologists, and psychologists.
Working in both individual and group settings, therapy takes place every
day. Using an interdisciplinary team approach, the team helps patients
relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and perform other everyday functions that
are often lost with impairments.
At Garden City Hospital, 99 percent of patients maintain or improve their
functional ability three months after discharge from the rehabilitation unit.
Garden City Hospital also offers social services and comprehensive discharge
planning for families needing assistance caring for a loved one.
