Interventional Cardiology

Minimally Invasive Procedures

Not all heart conditions require major surgery. Interventional cardiology uses special imaging and diagnostics to evaluate blood flow to the heart, as well as to treat implications of the cardiovascular system. At times, cardiologists may conduct interventional cardiology procedures in a cardiac catheterization lab for patients that apply. This involves inserting a catheter into the artery and to the heart to diagnose and treat diseases like coronary artery disease, vascular disease and heart disease.

Being a minimally invasive procedure, interventional cardiology offers many benefits over other major surgeries. These include:

  • Less risk of infection
  • Decreased pain
  • Decreased recovery time
  • Avoidance of large scars
  • Procedure performed on an outpatient basis

Garden City Hospital provides an array of interventional cardiology procedures, including:

  • PCI and Angioplasty
  • Heart Catheterization
  • Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT)
  • Electrophysiology Studies
  • Peripheral Vascular
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
