Infusion is the slow delivery of medication or fluid into a vein through
an IV. At Garden City Hospital, physicians and registered, certified nurses
staff the Outpatient Infusion Services department, where patients come,
on an outpatient basis, to complete intravenous (IV) treatment. Some patients
are scheduled for just one visit, while others come for infusion services
regularly over several weeks or months.
Infusion services include:
- Blood transfusions
- Antibiotic therapy
- Intravenous (IV) therapy
- Parenteral (IV) nutrition
If a physician referral is required for treatment, it is the patient’s
responsibility to obtain it before the first visit to Outpatient Infusion
Services. Please check with your insurance provider if you have questions
about referrals. The Outpatient Infusion Services staff will verify your
insurance coverage before your first visit and contact you if additional
information is needed.
If labs such as blood work are required, they must be drawn 24 to 48 hours
in advance of your treatment. If not drawn in advance, this will delay
treatment by one to two hours. Lab services are available at several Garden
City Hospital locations.
