The Emergency Medicine Residency at Garden City Hospital was established
in 1985. We are dedicated to providing quality clinical and didactic education
to residents. Graduating residents have a 98% first time pass rate for
the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine licensure exam. We
are a very energetic and enthusiastic group and look forward to working
with you in the future.
The program includes: organized weekly didactics Wednesday mornings, grand
rounds, case reviews, M&M conference, and Tintanelli textbook review.
Residents assume progressive responsibility in the Emergency Department
during their three years. Required out-rotations in pediatrics and toxicology
are available locally; time is allotted for outside electives as well.
Garden City Hospital's Emergency Medicine services have been provided
by DeGarA, PLLC. This is a Michigan-based EM group with a strong osteopathic
tradition. They have years of residency training experience overseeing
the program at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, now McLaren Oakland.
Residents complete EM, Critical Care, and other specialty rotations at
Garden City Hospital. The Emergency Department sees over 44,000 visits per year.
Outside rotations include:
- Pediatric, Children's Hospital of Michigan
- Trauma, R. Cowley Adams Shock Trauma
- Toxicology, Detroit Medical Center
- Hand surgery, GCH and associated clinic
Program duration: 3 years (PGY-1 through PGY-3)

Applications are submitted via ERAS. Interviews include a one-on-one meeting
with the program director, an opportunity to shadow in the ED, and attending
a didactic session to meet current residents and faculty. A rotation at
GCH is helpful but not required to be considered for an interview.
